Meet Melissa

Mill Creek is a wonderful community, and I am so proud to be raising my family here. My husband and I have two very adventurous boys and a very playful dog who is always ready for a walk. Actually, so are the boys. We love exploring the city, whether it’s going out for a walk along the trails or enjoying the playgrounds the city has to offer. As my boys grow up, I want them to continue to have access to these green spaces and participate in enriching community activities that our city could offer.

Professionally, I am a project manager with a background in communications and strategy. I’ve devoted my career to working with nonprofits and foundations. I’m proud to have managed projects that helped communities thrive.

I know that effective communication is a two-way street. In order to create a thriving community, the first thing is to listen. As a neighbor, a community volunteer, and a working professional, I have heard about the challenges, as well as the opportunities and solutions, to make our city more resilient.

With a strategic plan and careful management of resources, we can achieve better economic opportunities, preserve our green spaces, and ensure families feel safe and engaged.

As a volunteer, I have used my skills to help a variety of organizations, including local chapters of Healing the Children, the American Cancer Society, and our own Mill Creek Park & Recreation Board. I’ve been a member of the Parks & Rec Board for three years, including as its Chair.

Within my own neighborhood, I’ve served on my HOA board for over six years and have been the president for the past two years. I’ve collaborated with my neighbors to put on events and to build new paths, upgrade our roads, and replace playground equipment.

I am a leader who cares about our city and wants to make sure our local government is focusing on what makes our city great: our parks, our businesses, and recreational, social, and educational programs for our residents.

If you have questions or would like to help me by volunteering your time let’s connect via email (melissaformillcreek@gmail.com). You can also join my mailing list to keep up with what is going on in my campaign and if you can, please support by donating to the campaign.

I look forward to meeting with you.

My name is Melissa Duque and I would be honored to earn your vote and represent you on the Mill Creek City Council!
